In a rush to increase the housing supply and streamline development in California, the State Legislature has passed a bill that is wholly overstepping the rights of local cities and counties to determine what is best for their citizens.
SB 330 now sits on Governor Newsom’s desk awaiting his signature.
We urge you to reach out to the Governor and share your opinions on the matter. Here is what you need to know:
• SB 330 is good for developers NOT for our citizens. It contains NO apparent effort to address the housing affordability crisis. SB 330 clears the way for luxury housing, NOT AFFORDABLE HOUSING.
• SB 330 will preempt our local zoning and specifically the Valley Village Specific Plan. The Specific Plan protects Valley Village from building heights exceeding 30′.
• SB 330 does nothing to address the much-needed INFRASTRUCTURE that goes along with additional housing.
• Los Angeles is actually leading the state in housing development and does not need the state to overlay additional requirements that are not consistent with the city’s goals for development. Additionally, Los Angeles is in the middle of updating its General Plans (a broad planning guideline for each city) with much citizen input – SB 330 would undo all of that.
If the goal of SB 330 is to streamline the development of housing in California, the bill should target local practices that limit housing development (especially affordable housing) instead of taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
We urge you to email, mail or call the Governor and express your opinions … it takes a few seconds to send an email or make a phone call and if we ALL do it, it could have a real impact.
PLEASE TAKE ACTION RIGHT AWAY AS THE GOVERNOR COULD SIGN THIS ANY DAY.
